Things have been moving along nicely at the new ELC site! All of the painting is close to being completed on the new ELC and in the kindergarten wing. Once that is done, they will focus on the flooring and completing it. The heating/cooling units have all been set and connected electrically. The concrete on the east side of the building has been poured, and the playground is going to start to be installed in the coming weeks. The sidewalk in the front of the building has been poured, and they are grading out the rest of the parking lot to start pouring concrete soon. External doors are starting to be placed and installed.
Huge progress continues at the site of the West Liberty Foods Athletic Complex. While the rain has delayed some parts of the project, crews continue to work hard to make up lost time due to recent storms. The bleachers at Giri Family stadium are going up quickly. This week the blue risers were installed. When you walk along the trail on the east side of the complex you can see how these will look. The rock base is also being installed on the football/soccer field, inside the curb that has been poured. The field turf will attach to the cement curb when crews are ready to start that installation. Crews have also poured the floor for the Larry and Gloria Dlouhy concession stand. Plumbers and electricians were busy before that getting their work in place.
Installation of the footings for the baseball field foul netting poles is almost complete. The netting around the backstop of both the baseball and softball field will enhance the view of all spectators sitting behind home plate. Also, footings were poured this week, and foundation work has started on the West Liberty State Bank ticket booth. When finished, this building will have a gate on each side, giving spectators one common entrance to enter the athletic complex. This entrance will be ADA-compliant so all visitors can have an enjoyable experience at West Liberty events. Paved sidewalks will lead to all areas accessible to the public for events.
Weather permitting, we may see some large equipment at the site next week. As a reminder, please stay out of this active construction area. This is for your safety and the safety of all workers. You can get a great view of the complex from the trail on the east side. If you have any questions about the complex, please email Activities Director Adam Loria at aloria@wl.k12.ia.us.
