Things are coming together as progress continues at the new Early Learning Center!
Crews continue to make progress on the West Liberty Foods Athletic Complex south of the high school, despite the wet weather this week. Forms have now been placed at the south end, outside of the track for the shot put and discus. When complete, the shot put will be thrown to the south, while the discus will be thrown to the west. The shot put landing area will be a crushed gravel area (instead of grass). Also in the same area, crews have started to work on the long jump runway and pits. The runway will run from southwest to northeast with a pit at both ends. These field event locations will make for a unique experience at track meets as all field events will take place at the south end of the stadium.
Crews were also in this week to start installing sleeves for the baseball backstop padding. Both baseball and softball will have a three-foot high padded wall that will stretch from dugout to dugout, then netting that will extend up from the top of the padded wall.
You may notice a different color of rock on the football/soccer field - this is the final layer of rock before the turf goes in.
Once again we would like to thank the public for your cooperation in staying out of the area under construction. This allows workers to safely work and keeps you safe as well.
