It was a very busy week at the West Liberty Foods Athletic Complex south of the high school. If you have not been by on the trail this week, many of the tall weeds have been mowed down, making for a much nicer view of the progress. Crews spent time in the ditch along the east side of Giri Family Stadium installing tile to help water drain better from the north end to the south end. The same tiling was installed on the west side of the softball and baseball fields. This will help keep some water out of the complex during heavy precipitation times.
Crews have also spent the past three days laying down asphalt for the new 8-lane West Liberty Athletic Booster Club Track. This is a four-inch surface. After a period of time to allow the asphalt to cure, the top layer to track material will go on top of the asphalt. Once that top layer is down the track will be lined and all necessary track markings will be installed.
On the west side of the complex, crews have spent time installing large stormwater drains along the outside of the baseball and softball fields. The curbs around both fields have begun to be installed, getting both the baseball and softball fields ready for final grading and turf installation. You may also notice a cement circle on the baseball field... that is the pitcher's mound.
You may not be able to see a lot of progress on the Larry and Gloria Dlouhy Concession Stand, but there has been a lot of progress inside. Shingles have been placed and plumbers and electricians have been busy inside getting things ready. Lots of great progress on this building.
Did we mention the football/soccer field? No words are needed, but enjoy the view!
This is your weekly reminder to please stay out of this construction site. Even when there is not a lot of traffic in or out of the site, there are still a number of hazards around the area. We also need the public to stay off the football/soccer field and the asphalt track. The track needs time to cure and dry before walking across it.
Thank you for your cooperation.
