Workers once again took advantage of great weather this week to make some huge strides on the athletic complex. The turf has been laid and completed on the softball field. Fence crews are working today on the fence around the field. The fence around the entire field from dugout to dugout (around the outfield) will be four feet high.
You'll notice a lot more concrete from last week's flyover. Crews have poured the curbs for all four bullpens (these will be turf), the pads for the batting cages at both fields, a pad for the portable batting cage by the baseball field, the slab for the home baseball dugout, and concrete behind home plate of both baseball and softball fields. Crews also expanded the sidewalk south of the football field bleachers. As more of the project is completed, the remaining sidewalks will be poured inside and outside the complex.
The baseball field has been prepped and, weather permitting, turf should start going down on that field next week.
At the south end, grass seed has been put in place for the discus area, and the sand pits at the ends of the long jump have been filled.
There are many deep holes around the perimeter of the complex - crews from the fence company have started on the perimeter fence that will go all the way around the complex.
You will also notice the gravel parking area starting to take shape. When the parking lot is complete, there will be 11 handicap parking spaces that will be paved and connected to a sidewalk, making the complex accessible for all.
Lastly, crews have started moving dirt around putting some final touches on the grading around the complex. This morning brought some much-needed rain (although not enough) that will help settle some of the dust from moving all the dirt, as well as help with the enormous amount of grass seed that has been spread, with much more to come.
As a reminder, with everything going on and an increase in vehicle traffic, we are asking the public to stay out of this area. Thank you for your cooperation.
