West Liberty High School is excited to welcome Jason Dumont as its new head football coach (pending School Board approval). Coach Dumont has been the head football coach at Iowa City Regina for the past three seasons, compiling a 23-7 overall record with three playoff appearances. Prior to becoming the head coach at Regina, Dumont was the defensive coordinator and associate head coach at Regina for 14 years. Coach Dumont was an integral part of a staff that led Regina to 11 state championship game appearances, winning seven, including six straight while winning a state record 56 consecutive games.
“It is an honor to be named the head football coach at West Liberty High School,” said Dumont. “West Liberty has a rich football history and recent playoff success. Our goal will be to build on that tradition, develop our student-athletes into leaders, and compete for playoff berths and championships. I’m looking forward to getting started and becoming a part of the West Liberty community.”
Dumont takes over a Comet football program that has qualified for the state playoffs in five of the last six seasons, including two quarter-final appearances and a semifinal appearance in 2018. Overall, the Comets have qualified for the playoffs 14 times.
“We are thrilled to welcome Coach Dumont to the West Liberty family,” said Adam Loria, Activities Director at West Liberty Schools. “His passion for the game, combined with his leadership abilities, makes him the ideal coach to lead our football program.”
