COMET ATHLETIC COMPLEX OPEN HOUSE AND RIBBON CUTTING SCHEDULED FOR AUGUST 20TH

WEST LIBERTY, IA –  The West Liberty Community School District is hosting an open house at the new Athletic Complex on Tuesday, August 20th at 5:00pm.  Superintendent, Shaun Kruger, and Activities Director, Adam Loria, will be recognizing donors at a ceremonial ribbon cutting and the complex will be open for the public to tour.  After a successful $2 million-dollar fundraising campaign, the school district broke ground in fall of 2022.  The first athletic events were hosted last spring, and the football team will kick off their season in August.  All donors are invited and encouraged to attend for recognition and photos.  In addition to the groundbreaking Kruger and Loria will have project updates for the remaining phases and the new football coach, Mr. Jason Dumont, will make comments about the upcoming season.  The Athletic Booster Club will have the concession stand open for the public to purchase food and drinks.  All community members are invited to the event.

“This is a momentous occasion for the school district,” said Superintendent, Shaun Kruger. “We have achieved so much in a short time.  We have big plans for the future.  This is an opportunity to showcase the hard work and financial support of the community in our beautiful new complex.  It’s also an opportunity for the school district to update the public on our long-term vision.”

The construction of the complex has been one of the largest capital projects the district has managed.  Despite a few hiccups, the project has gone well.

“I have been to many sports facilities in the past year,” said Activities Director, Adam Loria. “There is nothing like this.  There are no other schools our size that have facilities as nice as this.  There are always going to be things that don’t go according to plan, and we have managed through those.  It has been a big project, but I’m pleased with how it’s turned out.”

Next up is the new indoor training facility, which Superintendent Kruger says is still on schedule.

“We will finalize the plans for the indoor facility this fall and break ground in 2025,” said Kruger.  “The facility will open early 2026.  There are several items for the outdoor facility that are still wrapping up.  For example, we have landscaping planned at the outdoor complex and the new ELC.  This will take place in spring 2025.  The district has a lot of capital improvement needs and this will be an ongoing process.  All of it supports our goal to be in the top 10% of school districts in Iowa.”
