Thank You! Gracias!

Dear Parents, Staff, and Community,

West Liberty Community School District reopened schools on September 8, 2020 for both hybrid and virtual instruction.  We welcome all of our students to the 2020-2021 school year.   All of our staff will continue focusing on our district’s mission to support and engage students with challenging and diverse learning opportunities to prepare them for a productive and meaningful life in a changing world.

West Liberty Community School District Return-to-Learn Plan, developed by multiple stakeholders during the summer, provides and integrates the guidance for a safe return to learning.  Please be sure to visit the link.   Thank you for allowing us to open our schools to our students.  The entire hybrid and virtual learning process is off to a great start.   This is new to all of us and we will continue to make changes to benefit our students.  Our schools are implementing their own protocols in regard to hybrid and virtual learning considering our students’ learning needs.  Parents remember to contact your child’s teacher or building administrator if you have any questions, concerns, or feedback.  Phone numbers and emails are available via our district’s website,  Also, make sure to visit our website for district updates  https://www.wl.k12.ia.us

Thank you parents for self-checking and certifying that your children are able to attend each morning before they come to school or ride the bus.  Thank you for picking up and dropping off your children responsibly and for supporting our Return-to-Learn Plan while implementing either hybrid or virtual learning. Thank you for sharing your concerns with our teachers and building administrators so we can make improvements and implement protocols effectively.   Thank you community members for your help and attention each day to assure that children arrive at school safely.   Thank you to our staff and parent groups for their amazing educational support.

We are looking forward to an excellent day tomorrow, next week, and another great school year!  Remember we must keep our hands clean, follow social distancing, and continue the required daily self-screening for families and staff related to COVID-19 symptoms PRIOR to boarding a school bus, arrival at school, offices, and school buildings.   We must do our part in implementing our protocols to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

We will continue evaluating our models during our first trimester with the goal to return 100% in person.  We will continue working together as a unit with a focus on providing a safe and healthy learning environment.

Sincerely,

Dr. Diego F. Giraldo

Superintendent
