Child waiting for the bus

We are asking that community members please watch for school buses in the morning and afternoon. Iowa Department of Transportation states, "The greatest risk is not riding the school bus, but approaching or leaving it. " There are a variety of specific rules provided on this Iowa Department of Transportation website: https://iowadot.gov/schoolbus/... but what it boils down to is that you must stop when bus lights are flashing and the stop arm is extended.  Not doing so puts our students in great danger as they approach or leave the bus.

If your child normally rides the bus but is not riding on a certain day please call the bus barn by 6:30 am at 319-627-4288  and provide them with your child's full name and their bus number.  Please do not call the school to report that your child will not be riding the bus as our bus drivers leave before anyone arrives in our building offices.  You should then report that your child will be absent to their school building as well before the start of school (7:45 - 8:15 am, depending on the building).

Winter weather is fast approaching.  Please be sure that your children are dressed in warm clothing to wait for the school bus (coat, hat, gloves, etc.).   Hard surface bus routes could be used in the case of severe weather.  Please be aware of the pick up and drop off location and time for your child.  Please visit this link to see Hard Surface Bus Routes for this year: https://www.wl.k12.ia.us/o/wlc...

Thank you,
