7th graders had special guest judges for their Amazon rainforest land conflict debate. Ken Brooks and Ms. Russell determined winners based on claims, counterclaims, and rebuttals. Students had opportunity to ask Mr. Brooks land use questions for West Liberty.

Salad lettuce supply in our buildings is limited and of poor quality due to storms, excessive rain out west, and our recent break/upcoming spring break. We will still offer fruit and other vegetables on the Middle and High School salad bars but may run out of lettuce this week.

The CDC and Iowa Department of Public Health have announced that COVID isolation guidelines are now the same as the common cold. We have updated our Illness Guidelines to align with this, and will no longer require a 5-day quarantine following a COVID diagnosis.

8th graders analyzed fossils from the Paleozoic yesterday.
8th grade art explo is making paper mache animals. These are balloons covered with newspaper and glue then painted with acrylic paint.
5th grade art classes are writing 4 page comic books. they are learning about the parts of a comic, speech and thought bubbles and writing storylines. A few are writing in spanish or english the comics are drawn and illustrated using a variety of materials
Sixth graders in Coding/Science Enrichment explored the design process the last two weeks by creating new board games in small groups. This week they got to play each other's games.

5th graders have been learning about the colonies and slavery. They learned that people that were against slavery helped slaves by making freedom quilts to help escaping slaves know a secret code . They made freedom quilts! Here is each class with their completed quilts.

6 of our 8th Grade Algebra students attended the 2024 Math Counts Competition in Muscatine and placed 3rd in the teams round! HUGE thank you to Mrs. Henderson for getting them prepared and arranging to have the students compete!
Today was Day 1 of our Ancient Egyptian Mummification Process Demonstrations. Students took the whole class through the mummification steps used in Ancient Egypt.
